Who Are You Living For?

Whose life are you living anyway? Maybe a better question would be… WHO ARE YOU LIVING FOR? Seriously, WHO ARE YOU LIVING FOR? For married folks your answer may be that you are living for your spouse. This is an honorable endeavor; the Bible says that we are to fulfill the marital role in similar style as Christ’s relationship to the church. For people with children your answer may be that you are living for your children. This is a high calling; the Bible says that we are to train children in the way that they should go. For someone that is single or without kids maybe the answer to the question could be any of the following: a future spouse; an aging family member; a friend in need. I wonder how many Christians would be so bold to answer the WHO ARE YOU LIVING FOR question like this…. MYSELF? More importantly, would you answer it that way? Now in all fairness you may not respond that way with words, but do your actions express those sentiments? I recently a came across a line that smacked me in the face…. It’s spiritual and simple:“If Jesus Christ guides your life–your life can never be simply about you.” (Erwin McManus) Huh!? That’s exactly what popped in my head when I read that. Huh… how profound. I hope that my schedule screams that my life is about more majestic than me. I hope that my checkbook communicates that my life is about something larger than living it up. I hope that my actions express that my life is poured into eternity and not an endeavor that won’t last this century, decade or year out. How about you?
