Who Are You Living For?

23 09 2008

Whose life are you living anyway?  Maybe a better question would be… WHO ARE YOU LIVING FOR?  Seriously, WHO ARE YOU LIVING FOR?  For married folks your answer may be that you are living for your spouse. This is an honorable endeavor; the Bible says that we are to fulfill the marital role in similar style as Christ’s relationship to the church.  For people with children your answer may be that you are living for your children.  This is a high calling; the Bible says that we are to train children in the way that they should go.  For someone that is single or without kids maybe the answer to the question could be any of the following: a future spouse; an aging family member; a friend in need.    I wonder how many Christians would be so bold to answer the WHO ARE YOU LIVING FOR question like this…. MYSELF?  More importantly, would you answer it that way?  Now in all fairness you may not respond that way with words, but do your actions express those sentiments?  I recently a came across a line that smacked me in the face…. It’s spiritual and simple:“If Jesus Christ guides your life–your life can never be simply about you.” (Erwin McManus)  Huh!?  That’s exactly what popped in my head when I read that.  Huh… how profound.  I hope that my schedule screams that my life is about more majestic than me.  I hope that my checkbook communicates that my life is about something larger than living it up.  I hope that my actions express that my life is poured into eternity and not an endeavor that won’t last this century, decade or year out.  How about you?

Moo’s thoughts for the day….

15 07 2008

Our oldest son’s second birthday is this weekend and Melissa and I can’t believe he’s almost 2!  Time flies… and it seems like the older you get the quicker it goes by.  Jackson has changed a lot in the past 2 years…. and it causes me to think how (or if) I have changed during this same time period.  I’d like to think I have, of course for the better, but it really doesn’t feel like it.  I have changed quite a bit, because two years ago I had never…

  • changed a diaper
  • given a baby a bath
  • been puked on (well, scratch that…. a sick girl in 2nd grade got me!)
  • cared about someone so innocent
  • laughed so much
  • been so thankful for Melissa being my wife

I’d like to believe that I’m a more educated, caring, compassionate, faithful, funny person, and a better husband and father than I was in July of 2006.  Let me ask you a question…. have you changed lately?  I believe your answer should tilt towards the affirmative.  Although it really is subjective as to HOW you have changed.  So honestly…. how have you changed?

The Well must go on!

25 03 2008

The Well must go on!  If you have not been around recently and are kind of out of the loop… this Sunday night would be a perfect time to come back.  The next two weeks we’ll unpack the agenda/purpose for The Well.  Also, this Sunday (March 30) we are having a pizza connection immediately afterwards in The Attic… hope to see you this week as we discuss Connect/Grow/Serve!   -Moo

HIV/AIDS Project

13 12 2007

As we mentioned 2 weeks ago, we are partnering with the University of Florida Rainbow Center for a special HIV/AIDS project.

The University of Florida Rainbow Center at Shands Jacksonville is a family-centered, comprehensive health care provider for HIV-infected or exposed infants, children, adolescents, women and their families, including their partners. Affiliated with the UF Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and Immunology, the center provides a full array of patient care services, including screening, counseling, medical care, medical case management, health education, nutrition and dietary evaluation, pharmacist assistance and social services.

The mission of the Rainbow Center is to enhance the quality of life of children, adolescents and families affected by HIV by providing compassionate, comprehensive care. In addition, the center strives to increase awareness and understanding of HIV through leadership, service and education, with the ultimate goal of decreasing the transmission of HIV.

From now until February 3rd we will be collecting the following items for the Rainbow Center:

What Ministry?

22 10 2007

Do you have a ministry that you are serving in?  Not attending…. SERVING!  We need several enthusiastic folks to contribute their time and talent regularly to the ministry of The Well, in the following areas: greeting, tech, creating a warm environment, set-up, tear-down, Attic café to name a few.  Please post or contact Moo as to your area of interest.

1. Follow-up (This has not been mentioned before, but could easily use “behind the scenes” type peeps to write notes, send emails, things of that nature to visitors on a more personal level…. From someone not getting paid to do it!)

2. Greeting (probably good to have 15 every week, preferable a rotation of atleast 2 teams)

3. Tech (video camera, video switcher, Mediashout (words), lights and sound) 4. Creating a warm environment (What Trista and Sam do…. But give them a team to work with/train)5. Set-up/tear-down (Tables, chairs, props, signage, etc)6. Attic café (Need 2 peeps per week, with preferable 4 teams)

7. Connection Clean-up (This isn’t glamorous, but does need to be done at the monthly dinners)
